SAFED

Kita is an accredited SAFED (Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving Centre).

SAFED training has been developed specifically to enable both operators and training providers to implement driver training within the bus and coach drivers through instruction relating to vehicle craft and road craft. The SAFED course has been designed as a single course aimed at improving the safe and fuel efficient driving techniques of bus and coach drivers.

SAFED for bus and coaches can:

  • Reduce fuel costs
  • Reduce CO2 emissions
  • Help to demonstrate Duty of Care
  • Improve passenger safety
  • Reduce risk of accidents
  • Increase driver confidence in vehicle control
  • Reduce maintenance costs, vehicle downtime, driver stress and fatigue

The driver is initially assessed by our qualified trainer. Training on best practice in safe and fuel efficient driving technique is given. The driver is reassessed to record improvements in driving technique and where possible, actual fuel consumption.

The driver is also assessed in performance in a safety check and a knowledge test exercise as well as the number of faults recorded during the day's practical driving sessions. Successful drivers receive a certificate of achievement.

Awareness raising

The majority of driver development is about changing attitudes and behaviour. In many instances this cannot be done by compulsion. Even if this is used, immediate reaction to proposed measures may be dismissive, therefore the benefits have to be sold to the staff. Experience has shown that staff respond well to initiatives that result in personal benefits such as safety and reduced time wastage.
